Ansible Role: Zabbix Prerequisites

This role installs the official Zabbix package repository, so the other Zabbix roles can install their packages from it. It does not install any Zabbix component itself.

Alpine hosts are skipped: the role does nothing there.

The following roles expect this role to have run before them. Each of their playbooks runs it first.

The repository URLs per distribution are defined in vars/Debian.yaml and vars/Suse.yaml and are built from zabbix_major_version.

What the role does

• Checks whether the configured major version is already present (Debian family: the first zabbix/ line of apt policy).
• When it is not, it removes the old zabbix-release package and installs the zabbix-release package for the configured version straight from repo.zabbix.com.
• Debian and Ubuntu: refreshes the apt cache afterwards.
• SLES: installs the release rpm and imports the GPG key of the "Zabbix Official Repository".

Usage

Run the role through Semaphore using playbook.yaml. The playbook first runs ansible-galaxy install -f -r roles/requirements.yml on the controller to fetch the latest role, then executes it on all hosts. Normally you do not run this role on its own: the playbooks of the other Zabbix roles include it.
